The first two books follow the text of the first editions: Titus Groan (1946) and Gormenghast (1950). This edition of Titus Alone follows the revised 1970 edition in which various omissions from the text of the first edition (1959) were restored.
The story begins with the birth of the eponymous Titus, as the heir to the throne of the House of Groan, and follows his life in the increasingly fantastical world of the Gormenghast Estate and beyond.
